lol "barely made it out of Portugal?" The portuguese sections were amongst the worse in the whole Dakar maybe behind Mauritania. They were even criticized for being too harsh. Very fine very deep sand big mud puddles with pine trees on the side. Dangerous and tricky... You should come here and try it ;)

I gotta enter the '09 Dakar, ride a scooter off the start line and into the side of a camel so I can be called a Dakar rider - what a joke! Nice bike though ;)
