The tv show was actually before the Manga. Go Nagai renewed the concepts of his TV series for a better plot.

This was notihng like the Manga. The Manga was so good, this tv series was basically like a childrens super hero show compared to the original devilman manga.

FUN FACT: Go Nagai considers Devilman to be his magnum opus and gets pissed off when anyone insists otherwise (Like saying Mazinger Z was better; I prefer Mazinkaiser myself).

seems to me that the 70ties version was ment for a broader kind of viewers, whilst the later version was deffinetly meant for adult viewers.
