This Ahmad Jamal video likely comes from:The GREATEST JAZZ FILMS EVER dvd(There are two different versions of this dvd, one with Charlie Parker videos and one without - just enter the title into your favorite search engine)Note that the black man with the mustache, smoking and watching Ahmad Jamal play is Ben Webster.

Man, musicians!! (Especially the jazz cats) I love'em and I hate'em cuz I'm jealous :-( It's like that song, sometimes I love you, sometimes I hate, you but when I hate it's cuz I love you.

CjazzE,If my mem'ry serves me correctly, this is a jazz special from the 1950s ("This is Jazz"???) that I believe I have on VHS somewhere stacked in my collection. If I can find it I will post more information about.Hafa Adai

The sad thing is that, at least where I'm from, most of the cheers happen when someone plays out, not when they swing hard.

don't get me wrong... sometimes all of the hootin & hollering gets damn old and annoying haha
oreojazz (June 14, 2008 at 10:12 pm)
youve got a point.

i hear you... i think, though, that jazz music still retains its dignity, despite the hooting and hollering heard in today's jam sessions. the hooting in hollering is what i prefer to look at as an evolution of the art form, and believe it or not, people used to hoot and holler at mozart and bach concerts back in the old, old days! in my opinion, it's just a manner in which fellow musicians and audience members culturally show respect for the soloistsweet video, thanks for posting!!!
