It's a pretty generic cartoon but I do think the pitch black tone of the birds and the light beak tends to insinuate black-face even if it's by coincidence (which I doubt). If I'm not mistaken, the Aunt Jemima/Mammy stereotype is considered racist in itself.

oh yeah, and I'm black and from the south and I didn't find it that offensive. There was no black face in this one (very rare for cartoons of the time) and foghorn leghorn talks just as steroetypically country, so at least they were being balanced about it.

it's a small snippet of the Overture of William Tell by Rossini

now if the birds were white everyone else would say they r racist cuz the bird isn't black....but if the cartoon has black birds they still say its rasict so it doesn't matter what u do....u'll preety much still be called racist...gosh...ppl these days =[

Wow, people are making a big deal out of this being "racist." The only stereotypes I see are the "Aunt Jemimah" look and the way they talk, but thats it.
IAMCANADIANWOOT (June 22, 2008 at 2:43 am)
I wouldn't think saying mammy would be insulting or anything because I use Mammy sometimes. Well I am from Canada but people in Canada and US pretty much speak the same 'cause we share all the same Tv channels and stuff. So if I were you I wouldn't worry about it. |
