I stand corrected on mr.razaf, and I agree that it was mr. greys arrangement that made it a classic.Does anyone have a copy of the original arrangement??

Joe Garland and Andy Razaf were both black. Wingy Manone was white. Regardless of the song's roots, it went nowhere until this arrangement came out, which was written by Miller himself in collaboration with Jerry Gray, who was the Miller band's chief arranger.

Soccer guy, sorry, but you're wrong."in the mood" was written by joe garland and andy razaf, with the original arrangement by joe "wingy" manone. Now, while I cannot vouch for mr. garlands ethnic backround, I know misters razaf and manone were not black. The basis for the song is a "twelve bar blues" which indeed has black roots, but not all big band songs are a direct rip off. |
