http://www.ted.com n clear, nontechnical language, string theorist Brian Greene explains how our understanding of the universe has evolved from Einstein's notions of gravity and space-time to superstring theory, where minuscule strands of energy vibrating in 11 dimensions create every particle and force in the universe. (This mind-bending theory may soon be put to the test at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva.)

Beside of the extra dimensions there is such thing as the frequency, which fills even existing for us dimensions with the infinite multiplicity of appearances, which would be beyond of our perception, beyond of our reality till we locked just in that our "evolutionary" frequencyand what exists beyond of that ?another untraceable for us worlds and creatures ?

They are checking to see if there is a loss in energy. They're not trying to change the nature of the particles, but if there is a change in the amount of energy it means that energy has been directed into 7 of the dimensions we don't understand as of yet.If there is a change in energy then it is proof that there are other dimensions.

I didnt get the last part, are they going to try and alter the vibration of the strings through the energy of the collision to change the nature of the particles? Like some particle turned into a graviton, since gravitons can't be detected it would seem as a loss of energy wouldnt it? Am I on the right track?

I love TED. I always find something interesting to watch or listen too. Brian Greene is amazing - an outstanding presentor. I watched his document, The Elegant Universe, recently and I was captivated throughout the entire thing, which was 3 hours long. I really hope that String Theory really is the key in the unification of all ours questions about our world and the universe. If it is...we have took a HUGE step in our understanding of how our universe came to be how it is today.

Great talk!If only every other "scientist" was such a great showman.

the universe isnt 13 billion years old. Our time is an illusion generated by the Earths rotation around the sun. Dont believe me? Explain the seasons and explain why Mars has longer days, because its farter to make the turn around the sun than us.

Dr Greeene is a genius but will he be able to find the big answers (what happened before the big bang? what is dark energy? is it really possible a theory of everything?)? The Universe is 13.7 billion years old and we only began studing these issues very recently, a few hundreds years ago. It would be great if the string theory was the key...who knows?

I hate it when the reply system doesn't work.....

Fucking crazy.

Go and read the Sohar, or the 'Force of Kaballah'.You will see 10 Dimensions in the Sefirot (And they actually have names ;-) )
