if they did do all the packaging, weighing, etc. and set "their price", nobody will buy it unless its dirt cheap like it is right now. if you have 200 farmers willing to sell their coffee for cheap, the handful selling their coffee for more won't sell a single bean.

The farmers don't get free bikes. They are lent to the farmers, who pay off the bike with coffee beans.After achieving bike ownership, I assume the farmer can take his beans to any buyer he likes (prob the one who gives the best price, and likely has less middle men to achieve it).
