The LimeWire software is not illegal. However, using the software to make unauthorized copies of copyrighted works and making them available for others to download is illegal.

They have, and the case is still working its way through federal court. The difference between Napster and Limewire is the fact that Napster had a central server which all of the transfers went through. This meant Napster could be held liable for unauthorized files passing through its network. LimeWire has no such central server, it's a true P2P network, the files go directly from one hard drive to another, so the liability claim is a little more cloudy.

its illegal if you dont pay for it -if it never asked to be "upgraded" to premium then it would be counted as an illegal program ;)
