Lol yes Bob overdid it with the tears, and the poverty pledge was a gaffe. I got nothing against him except he didn't make the most of popularity that comes with being on the right side of the political cycle and that off-white Richie Benaud mimicry wore thin after a while.Carleton was stellar and the only tragedy is he mellowed with age.Oh, and his name is spelt incorrectly. That's why we didn't make the finals ;-)

What a real turd Bob Hawke really was. It is interesting and revealing that Richard Carlton was able to bring out this side of Hawke's rather petulant nature, long before it became glaringly obvious to us all. Carleton was a turd. Keating called him a popstar with chequebook in subsequent interviews. All his 'under the skin' technique was a deliberate attempt to wind up the politician and to gain ratings. No substance at all. Not one deep, meaningful question. Just shitstirring hyperbole. Absolute rubbish journalism, he was never rated again as a journalist when he left the ABC.
