I can see where you are confused. In some parts, the backup players do a few riffs for effect. But Randy Bachman is the lead guitarist overall on the whole song.

I have this DVD and on it, it says that Randy Bachman plays lead guitar on this song. The DVD is Bachman Cummings First Time Around, released 2006.

The fact that Randy is standing beside Cummings doesn't mean he's playing lead. Playing lead means playing the notes and riffs in a song. That is clearly shown in this vid to be done by a back-up guitarist.Randy is playing rhythm, not lead.
