Funny that you mention this. I must have heard this song a thousand times. I never knew exactly what he said in that sentence and never cared to find out. But he is especially clear about it in this show "I float down the Liffey." I wondered why they were yelling too so I looked it up, Wikipedia has a nice article and pictures of the river Liffey.

This is live in Dublin and they cheer at 2:38 because Thom sings, "I float down the Liffey"... The River Liffey flows through Dublin.
