i agree they did deserve it but like you said Italy has a terrible penalty record(exluding 2006 WC final) shame that a game has to end that way though because over the years many fantastic teams have been knocked out of major tournaments via the shootout

They deserved to, though... Argentina and Germany were two average, defensive sides at the time (watching the final on tape made me want to drive tentstakes into my skull)but Italy was playing very well and was unfortunate to miss out on penalty kicks. People tend to forget Italy's terrible record with penalty kicks because of the final in 2006, but it's nearly as bad as England's!
