@AbsoluteZ3R0:I totally agree with what you say. Only if your technique is solid and well developed, you can start to actually "play" the pieces you like. That's why the violin sounds so terrible if played inaccurately. Wrong technique, poor sound; great technique, amazing sound.Nevertheless, I personally prefer Hilary Hahn. In my opinion, she is also better than Heifetz, more emotional ;). AND: this piece has to be played more slowly. But, as said, only my opinion...

it is true that his intonation may not be as good as Heifetz. He sounds a little sharp or flat at times, and in his chords. With Heifetz, to listen to his absolutely pitch-perfect arpeggiated chords is a bliss. But nathan milstein's bow technique and especially his articulation is phenomenal,as well as his interpretation. how amazing. a great inspiration, the violin virtuoso

I'd rather hear musicality over a lot of technique as well, however, to say that there is such a thing as "too much technique" is foolish. The more technique a musician has at his disposal the more room he has for artistic and musical development. Music begins when technique ends. The reason violinists such as Milstein and Heifetz are so great/musical is because their technique is incredible.

I'd rather hear musicality rather than a lot of technique... I believe there is such thing as too much technique.

this may sound a little impertinent but what is it that distinguishes 20th century violinists eg milstein, oistrakh, heifetz from those of the 21st century eg vengerov, shaham, etc.?

How can you criticize him?Ho do you tink you are??

what impress me abaut milstein is his wonderful articulation and pure intonation,he speaks whit his violin!!

He grabes the bow a little bit differently from the other violinists. However Heifetz grabs the bow in a similar way.I think this should be Auer's thecnique they both were his students
