In the same architectural line, the number of cores is always more essential than the frequency.

It has the same gaming performance as any other CPU in the Core 2 Duo line, as they all have the same efficiency at equal clocks. An OC'd quad will always beat out an OC'd dual, even if the game only uses 2 cores, as there is still room with the other 2 cores. If the application can indeed use more than 2 cores, such as most RTS', there will be a significant increase in performance going from an E8400 clocked at 3.5GHz to a Q6600 at, say, 3.2GHz.
