Anthropic principle, we aren't lucky to live in a universe that can support us because that is the only kind of universe we could find ourselves in in the first place.

Perhaps not impossible. Only those forms of life of which we know might be impossible. Just recently have we learned of a previously unknown life form on earth -- creatures miles below the ocean surface that is devoid of any light whatsoever and with a pressure so high it was formerly considered prohibitive to any form of life.

physicists are working on that as a possible answer and its been dubbed "the mulitiverse" imagine amound of soap bubbles and each ones a universe. theoretically each one could ahve a different gravity constant which would mean life is impossible in them universes. if thats true weve won the biggest lottery concivable

Abraham Lincoln was actually a Deist. But Deism back then was about the closest thing a person could get to being an Atheist back in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Faith, by definition, HAS no proof, but NEEDS no proof? You mean we have to accept anything anyone (Muslim, Scientologist, Mormon, Jehovah's Witness...) accepts on faith, no matter that they all contradict each other?
Hugh7777 (April 27, 2008 at 4:22 am)
But the Universe IS here, so no matter how many tickets were in that particular lottery, we won! Maybe somebody had to, just like a real lottery. Or maybe there are gazillions of alternate universes without planets, or without life, or without anything, so the odds are not broken. We just don't know, so don't be so smug about your particular guess.

No, she is not entitled, from her position of power, to tell a petitioner to "Get out of that seat" and he has no right to express his opinion. That breaks not only the separation of church and state but also his freedom of speech. And what happened to the substantive issue, a grant of taxpayers' money to restore a church? If it was as a historic building, maybe, but as a church, no.

i think she owes the atheists of the world an apology
