Jones used this exact statement to assure his followers they were going to heaven. Peoples Temple was not so much a cult as it was a movement similar to the cival rights. Lets just say that Jones was in the right place at the time.

These people (Not all) drank willingly. Though some confused this as another "White night' and dind't know they were going to die. It's a sad state of affairs but Paul said it best in Corinthians "I am a man born before due season. I am born before due season just as all of us are.
