Block Kuzushi (Simple 1500 Series - Volume 14) Level A3
Clip of my 2nd fave game, which is also sadly almost completely unknown over here in blighty. Basically its an Arkanoid clone by Tamsoft, only with a few novel tweaks. If you press fire when the bat hits the ball, the ball is sort of charged Speedball 2 style for an instant, which makes it able to pass through blocks, instead of bouncing off them. And the more consecutive times you do this, the longer it is charged for, and thus the more blocks it can pass through. But you can also curl the ball by moving the bat as you charge the ball, which makes it fly in an arc that retains the charge for much much longer, meaning you can score big combos. It has lots of other novel features too. It has a tilt button, in the same way pinball games do, which means you can alter the path of the ball, and because it uses gravity unlike other Arkanoid clones, a master can actually slow the ball so much it won`t even reach the blocks before it comes back down. When you get a multiball powerup, the initial ball stays a different colour to the rest of the many extra balls, which means that you must still play carefully instead of being able to get away with hitting whichever balls you like. And the level structure is a chain design like on outrun, so there are multiple different paths through the game, all of which feature different powerups or newer more devious types of blocks.Even though it looks ultra basic, the mechanics and innovations in this game make it stand well above most other games of this type, and make it an engrossing game for all Breakout/Arkanoid Fans. Hope the vid conveys the game mechanics well enough.
