http://addicted2salsa.com/2006... another funny combo name. DPS stands for 'Department of Public Safety'. I got arrested one time at Iowa State University for carrying a door down the street (oops!), and the way they lock your arms is the same way you do it to the follow. The reason for this name is because its a variation on both creating a wrap with the lady, but also having both arms in a kind of hammerlock position. This salsa combo is kind of tricky to perform, so practice it various times at home to get the timing down: especially the mechanics of moving around the lady and moving their arm down (so you don't break it).

FernandezD90, when I first started using this move, I could do it only with the more advanced dancers. However, now that I've got it down and am really comfortable with it, I can lead almost any follower thru it. Of course, I still get a feel for whether the follower can do an inside turn easily or not, then I go from there. This is definitely a move that will get oohs and aahs from the followers, especially if you can lead them thru it for the first time!

I've found there's some level of choreography in Salsa of course.. if you're leading a beginner, they probably will get lost in this move unless you're really really good at leading... but that's why you do combos/moves that match the beginners level... you won't do double/triple turns for a follower who has taken 3 classes in total...

that's how you count in salsa.. the 4th and 8th beats are pauses. You can count 8 if you want, doesn't make a diff.

How come you're counting 1-3 then 5-7 I'm used to counting 1-8.
