His Dad was very abusive (which Marvin also went on to be). He tried to win his dad's love but to no avail. He gave his Dad a Gun for an Xmas Present, Marvin and his Mom were in Marvin's room (he did go back to live with his parents after his Sexual Healing tour) when the Dad started shouting at his Mother, Marvin intercepted, pushed his Dad over and went on to beat him, his Dad retaliated by shooting him twice, the first bullet went through his heart and killed him.

i heard 2 types of story 1 his dad was abusive and he shot marvin dead...but the 2nd one is that marvins wife left him with his kid so marvin went to his mum and dads house and that HE was abusive to his dad and sweared and beat him and pointed a gun at him till one day he gave the gun to his dad in which hes dad shot him.....
