One of my favorite musicians of all time - Bud Shank. Also good on flute (but doesn't play any more).

One of the most underrated bossa nova songs ever.... This is wonderful, although the original lp has a different version (same tune, solos are different) There's only one other version of Elizete that I know of and thats on a Cal Tjader lp onm Verve.

Bud played what looked like a modified oboe when he was in Johannesburg, South Africa, in the late 1950's with Bob Cooper, Claude Williamson, Bob Cooper and June Christy - MAGIC!KZN (SA)

ah! so this solves the whole thing. There's another version of this song on a Bud Shank record called Brazil! Brazil! Brazil!, and it's basically the same as this but has strings. I was always wondering how Pete got those strings out, but now I see. Never seen this LP before.

If you are interested, check out Bud Shank and Bob Cooper on a 1957 album (or CD reissue) called "Blowin' Country"...it's got some great jazz oboe, an instrumentation hardly heard nowadays!! (And NO! the album has nothing to do with country music!)

We dug up "I Love Music" less than 2 months after Illmatic dropped. The sample was approximately 3 seconds and the tempo rapidly decrements each second. PR chopped that at least 4-5 times to get that 3 second sample to sync to a metronome. Everyone I know who has attempted to recreate "The World Is Yours" has failed including myself. My point is "Mind Blowin" was straight forward. He placed a beat on top then out the door. |
