Actually the jive is considered a latin dance because the couple pretty much stay in small area and rotate a lot, just like the other latin dances (except samba) and yet the jive still has most of the trademarks of a latin dance. The hips (although the technique is very different) and the posture.

You know that international style latin dancing is call latin american dancing. hence the american(as in USA) is why jive is call that.

I agree with Taura9!!! Ballroom dances names are confusing and if you were going to call the dance Rumba at least use some rumba steps. For example, in the international latin division you guys have a dance call "jive", There is nothing latin about jive... I'm not saying this dance is not valid dance form but I'm stating the naming catargories are a bit misleading
