if the stings are vibrating, what are making them vibrate?

I believe he was merely talking about spatial dimensions. It's true that we need another dimension in the set of numbers to destribe nature[such as (a,b,c,d), instead of (a,b,c)] according to relativity, however when you are just talking about spatial dimensions there are only the three spatial dimensions(a,b,c). String theory on the other hand requires a much more complex set in order to explain some problems which seems to lead to sets of 11 numbers or higher depending on which string theory.

Does anybody have any information on where string theory will take us, 25 years from now?thx

This is kinda funny, because just the other week I was asking on Yahoo Answers, if it was possible that we are living in more than just 3 dimensions that we are aware of. |
