Up to 90% of all Muslims follow the Sunni tradition, making it the largest branch of Islam. The name Sunni comes from the Arabic sunnah, meaning the custom or example of the prophet Muhammad. By the 10th century, Muslim theology was codified into the Sunni tradition. But even before that time, there were splinter groups, and the largest of these was the Shia tradition. "Shia" comes from the Arabic phrase shi'at 'Ali, which means the partisans of Ali. Ali was the son-in-law and cousin of Muhammad, and Shias believe that he was the prophet's rightful successor. Ali ruled as the fourth caliph (leader) after Muhammad, but he was assassinated in 661. The matter of leadership evolved into the Shia institution of the Imamate, a spiritual leader followers considered chosen by God. Ali was the first of the 12 most important Imams, and Shias regularly visit the shrines of the Imams. Sunnis have Imams too, but these men are more like prayer leaders and scholars, and they don't hold the same religious or political authority as Shia imams. Shia also interpret some verses of the Quran (the holy book of Islam) differently than do Sunnis. Suffering and martyrdom are idealized more in Shia tradition than Sunni, and the sects hold varying views on divine justice and free will. Shia'ism has its own call to prayer, prayer forms, and ritual practices as well.

When did Imam Ali (as) call himself a Shia or any of the 12 Imams ? Shias came into existance when they split from the the Ahle Sunnah. Imam Ali (as) were Sunni of Rasulullah (saw-a). We follow Sunnah that is why we are Sunni. Oldest Shias are the Ismeali and Zaidi Who are you ? The 12 Ithna Ashari came only after the 12 Imams which is 259 yrs after the Holy Prophet (saw-a). The basic rule of the Ahle Sunnah is that Prophets are higher than Imams. Those who disagree are in rejection of Nabuwa'h!

shia words has been used by Quran and Same in Hadees, Prophet Mohammads Himself used Shia word for follower of Imam Ali(AS)...That is established fact there were two kinda Shia;s exist Bad and Good when bad Shia bretrayed Imam Ali (AS) and joined Mawaiya they named themself Suni... thats why Suni's books are full of him and he is their beloved.. Our 12 Imams and Imam Ali was called Wali in QURaN .s our kalima is in Our YOUNEEDWD40 be honest with yourself and accept your ignorance lol

ok could you answer this for me please.If these titles cannot be located in the Qur'an could you produce this title from any hadith of the holy prophet (s)? Produce any such 'mutawatir' 'marfuu' or 'saheeh' narration from your books with a complete source (meaning the name of the book, version number, page number, edition etc) wherein the names Sunni, Ahl'ul Sunnah and Ahlul Sunnah wa al Jamaah have been mentioned by the holy prophet (saww) as a sect of Islam.

The word Shia has been used for bad evil groups in essence it means group or supporter. Firoun group is called Shia too as is Shia of Muawiya!. Now coming to the Holy Quran Shia have never been able to prove the concept of 12 Imams or their Kalima from the blessed Holy Quran. Islam cannot be remade Moula Ali (as) named their sons as Abu Bakr Umar Uthman ! But Shia hate these names ! Who is right Imam Ali (as) or the Shias ? Shias only follow by name only !...
