My own grandmother worked in the clothing/garment industry from 1920 to 1970 and made a good life for herself. She and my grandfather saved money, supported her children and retired well. She like many thousands of Americans lived the dream even though they did not have a college degree. Where are those jobs now? Reagan's American looked down on blue collar workers and began outsourcing to save a dollar. Thats how some people got wealthy in the 80's. Still stands today.

Remember all of those jobs lost in the 1980's because of outsourcing left many Xers fliping burgers. If you did not go to college what do you think happened to you?

Youre going to tell me that the people who lost their jobs working in the clothing, steel, electronics and car parts industry during the 80's became wealthy? I remember it hearing about out sourcing back in the 1980's Remember not everyone went to college as we could not afford it.

Where the hell do you live? Madison Ave? Maybe you should look beyond the mega-mansion you live in and witness the power of outsourcing jobs begun in the 80.s. Most people did not get wealth during Reagan's administration. Why don't you stop believing in the lie they told you twenty years ago.

More people became wealthy during Reagan than during any previous administration and most of those arose from the middle class. No one was shut out of anything. You are parrotting nonsense.
TheTypicalGirl (October 1, 2008 at 3:53 pm)
Homelessness? You mean the same "homelessness" that inreased during the 1970's and even more dramatically during the 1990's? Real wages declining? You mean as they have been doing for 40 years? Ah, but lets only talk about these phenomenon as they occured during a Republican administration. That's becauase we, as leftists, are nothing if not scupulously fair-minded.

You mean unemployment went down only among those who voted for Reagan? Inflation went down only if you voted for Reagan? Really???How imbecilic.

Grunge was a cry in the dark which fell on ears that weren't listening. Kurt was in pain from years of neglect and shame. I wish he were alive but how does one relieve themselves from such pain and rage. Now today things have not changed for our generation. It ironic that we are loosing our jobs and going back to taking jobs like flipping burgers. What does 700 billion mean to me? Shit.
cmtmj2007 (September 24, 2008 at 8:15 pm)
Kurt felt more than most of us Xers did about the Reagan years and being excluded from the possibilities or promises of the American Dream. It was a lie. That is why Grunge was so popular. T

It's a song by The Replacements called "Here Comes A Regular".
