Playing this with a trombone choir for the 2016 chicago olympic bid ceremony. I thought it sounded awesome with just trombones, but a full orchestra... wow!

I was at the track and field olympic trials last week... and on the 4th of july, they played this song and did the fire works to it, and the athletes were there... i had shivers down my spine, and had that inspired, proud feeling thats so rare in our government hating world and the quote of john williams quote in this describes it well...

A+ for John Williams' music, F for the stupid running commentary. "This is his score, he wrote it!" Thanks for ruining the music with that update, Jim.

i am so glad to not have to play this in band. I love the way it sounds, but it also sounds very complicated, much more complicated than "The Olympic Spirit" by him, which, I have played. But I would love to play this sometime just for the challenge as a flutist.

Looking back, having McKay and Jennings talk over the music was stupid for ABC producers to do, but they didn't have psychic powers to tell them this would become so sacred. Even the audience responded with only modest applause after it was over. Plus, McKay meant just as much to the Olympics as John Williams, and McKay had so much love and respect for sports in general that he never made himself bigger than the game. He and Jennings are broadcasting legends and deserve free passes for this. |
