Very nice tribute set to one of Brahms's most heartfelt creations. And a very expressive interpretation of this movement.Composed when he was 50, the 3rd Symphony seems to be Brahms's reconciliation to bachelorhood. It's built on the motto F-A-F, symbolizing "Frei aber Froh" (free but happy). This tender love duet (low instruments answered by high) is a dance, but also wistful lovers farewell. I imagine the words "Clara, ich liebe dich"in the opening phrase. |
