Thinking about this some more, for VM...You could have linux bases machines that are conntect to a MS active directory with the local computer possessing the VM folder. That would play much much faster and allow admins to swap out new images much more easily. But again, look to KVM for an actual competition in this realm.

Yeah but VMWARE was never( I hope not) supposed to be for desktops. It was to have backend servers running, make snapshots, and have running on SANs that replicate to other locations. All that as well as have HA ( Highavailability) where if one physical server went down, another would take over the processing and memory requirements. If you want to do comparsons with a VM desktop solution you should have XENdesktop versus SoliceIce's KVM

VMWare has no protocol. They are using RDP.Many customers are using VMWare ESX for virtual server infrastructure but most of them will use XenDesktop as a broker which provides full ICA capabilities.

Wow if it works so great then why is everyone using VMWare for VDI??
thejokermansending (June 28, 2008 at 2:10 am)
theyve change to vnc

Oh but they do. They lack the rich history that Citrix has dating the mid 90's with WinFrame. It was designed for a 14,000 baud modem... and to be usable.

ICA will always be faster. If Vmware wants a market in the VDI space then they cant use RDP.

This is a problem of RDP protocol and not VDI.

I did a video that covers multiple latencies between the two solutions. ICA was better everytime.
