NEW/FINAL VERSION AVAILBLE HERE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... video has been designed to give an idea of what the true ending to 'The Golden Compass'/'Northern Lights' looks like. I'm sorry if Youtube has screwed up the aspect ratio, I will fix it when I upload a new version (as this is a rough copy). Also this being a video of the end of a story, major spoilers are ahead. Do not watch if you've not seen the film or read the book. This video begins where the film ends. It wraps the whole film up, it explains the intro to the film, Dust, and finishes the first book. The Golden Compass originally ended this way, but test audiences found the ending difficult to swallow. New Line decided to take it out at the last minute. The removal of the ending, mixed with New Line determind to keep the film less than two hours means that at times the theatrical version is just not what it should be. Endless scenes that were filmed, were cut (mainly any that involved character development). To add insult to injury the whole order of events were changed to suit the new 'happy ending'. This is how the film was supposed to end, and I have to say good ridance to New Line for managing to waste a great opptunity to make one of the most defining movies of our time. Internationally the film was a huge success, but it's now looking unlikely that we'll ever see the sequels due to poor takings in America. Hope still remains that we'll recieve a directors cut. However it's looking like that's going to be down to the dedication of the fans. Either way, I hope this video kind of pieces together what should of happened. There are clips from trailers, the game, and a preproduction video to walk you through what we know the ending is kind of like. I hope you enjoy :)Music used:Alexandre Desplat - Letters From BolvangarBrain Tyler - Narnia Trailer / Children of DuneMusic from Romeo & Juliet (on preproduction video as a temp soundtrack)If you have new clips, or extra suggestions for this video tell me about them :)energy

Excellent stuff, and a suggestion of what the film could have been. As it was, it turned into a confusing mess with that non-ending.

it would be a shame if they didn't do a sequel as they've started they might as well finish!! i agree the ending should've been like the book!! if they'd done this movie more accurate to the books i reckon it could've been as poular as lord of the rings or harry potter!!i loved the books but the movie did not live up to my expectations at all!!great by the way good job!!

They should have just finished the movie off the way the book ends. I would set up a much more climatic ending for the next movie. It did in the books. As soon as I was done with the first I picked up the second.

they wanted to make the first film free of heresy but i'm a christian and i don't have a problem with the books, its just a story. its your own fault if you can't bring your children up well enough to understand that.

Current reports are pretty mixed, with basically it all boils down to 'no one speaking'. There's rumours of things starting in motion, and philip pullman wants a sequel... the director won't talk about it... and neither will warner bros (who now own New Line).

Wouldn't make any difference if they put it in or out. The sequel will now just start at the end of the first book, and most this footage will probably not see the light of day :/

I edited the footage together and played with the audio, all the raw footage is from New Line, including the storyboards.A new version is going to be posted very soon. I'm just tweaking the last couple of minutes.

did you make this whole thing?!

Not always. But in this case you're right. I loved that part of the book and I was like"Well that was dissapointing" when they left it out of the film.

i've forgotten how emotional that part of the book was... i was so disappointed by them cutting it... just goes to show, the books are ALWAYs better then the movies...
