Here is video of a major portion of John McCain's remarks to the National VFW Convention meeting in Orlando, Florida, August 18, 2008. He hammered Barack Obama for his opposition to the Surge Strategy in Iraq, saying Obama not only predicted the Surge would fail but tried to "legislate failure" by opposing funding for the troops.

Why would i vote for somebody that has me and my friends doing three tours in Iraq. Would not support the MGIB so that i could go to school. A party that did not equip me well to go into Iraq?

It's really simple folks.IF you think the last 8 years of a Republican run government have been good for the country, then vote for John Mcsame.HE voted for Bush policies 90% of the time. Hardly a maverick.McCain and the RNC talked "change", but from what. Themselves!Endless War, debt, recession, corruption, tax cuts for the rich, pollution, erosion of medicare, runaway health costs, torture, corporate welfare, the erosion of the middle class, runaway gas price More of the same.McBush.

The surge? Responsible for success? The Sunni awakening had already occurred, the Mahdi Army had been ordered to stop fighting, the individual militias were being paid by the US to behave...and THEN the surge troops went in. But according to McCain, the surge did it all...and it was his idea. Right.

McCain wants to leave Iraq in victory and with honor and not in defeat and humiliation. he also wants to punish the Russians for their aggression. It should be clear to any thinking person that McCain is reliving Vietnam, trying to undo the worst experience of his life and turn it into a victory. I feel for him, but he is not fit to lead this country. His baggage is overwhelming.

Hehe, this guy voted against all types of benefits in the latest GI bill. Speaking of Georgia, does he even know why Russia "invaded" S. Ossetia? Why does he smile after applause? And how can he talk about Congress being on vacation, when he hasn't spent too much time there in the past 2 years himself?

Senator McCain is speaking the truth. How is that dragging this election in the mud? This election is so important to us. The people need to understand each candidates' policies for the protection of this country. Obama's past actions need to be told. We the people need to know.

If the surge "succeeded", wouldn't we be out of Iraq? And no one would argue that you add thousands of troops there will be less violence. If you flood the most crime ridden streets with police, there wont be any crime. But those police can't stay on that one street forever, they have to go other streets and protect them.If we keep a million troops in iraq forever, yes iraq will be safe forever. But is that in OUR best interest? What happens when we need them to protect US!?!?

yes McCain is dragging this election into the mud...but as you saw from obama's response he refuses to engage in this negativity. Go Obama you rock!
