inventor? the old blues guys of the 50's were tapping way back when. Hackett was teh first to do it in rock i think. Halen popularized it because well, he was Eddie.

You mean, the one called "Genesis and the Press: The Complete Review" (Art House Classics Ltd.). That CD/Book Review ROCKS!! Hackett really trashes Banks on the extended keyboard on tracks on SEBTP. I hope they still like each other. :) I agree so much that when Hackett left Genesis lost its 'mystical' soul. Good analysis!!

That's a good question. TLLDOB came out in 1974, and VH1 came out in 1978. Still, Eddie could have actually "coined" the term tapping, as Hackett only did what he did!!

Absolutely stunning.... picked up on genesis in 72... Hackett was so inventive on "The musical box".... I was hooked... "fly" has got to be one of the instrumental high points of the seventies......
