Playing the same solo live as on the album is never any fun. Half the fun of playing live is improvising.

yeah, some people dont see that. A musician likes to put his own personal spin on something, sadly dickheads like rjvmoose dont see that.

whenever a band plays a live solo, obviously they aren't going to play it note for note. In this case, Jay Graydon, wasn't with them on tour, so obviously the solo would be "his". Jon took a jab, and opened the door for critisism. SeriousPieEnthusiast, im with you on this one

haha i love how u try to take a stab at my weight as if you've seen my build and it matters. So way to fail. Did i ever stay that I didn't like the original solo or this one? no. You can praise the original all you want and disrespect this version, but no one cares about your opinion on a subjective matter. Actually most would agree with me. First, try to understand music and then musicians. They aren't fucking Purists. again, if you want to see the same solo 50 times, go classical

Stick to eating pie fat boy, and while your at it take a knife to the Mona Lisa too, you seem to be good at cutting up Masterpieces. When I think of Peg, I think of it's brilliant solo, and when I hear Peg I want to hear it's brilliant solo. When Jon took matters into his own hands he opened the door for criticism. In this case, he fell way short! He may be a brilliant player, but as a brilliant player he should have seen brilliance.......and "Left it alone"

true, I found out a bit later:)anyway, both anthony and chuck are great players! but the story is correct!:Pi love the fact that he put up a screen or something and turned the other way so that they couldn't see what he was doing:P

another thing. being a "life long guitar player" isn't a credential even if you are fucking jazz great status.

some classical solos are played note for note...a solo isn't like the lyrics to a song or a bass line, which are already arranged for them. The soloist is given freedom to play whatever he wants(usually in good taste and following the chord progression) and Jon does it well.

Yep it's a cool story but the Bass player and bass line is by Chuck Rainey.
RHCPfleaMS (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
the coolest thing is that they said to Anthony Jackson, which I believe made the bass line and was in the band at that time, that he wasn't aloud to play slap bass, that was their only demand:P And what does he do, he plays slap:P but he disguises it, on the studio you can hear it's disguised:p the funniest thing is that they actually said to him after the refrain, wow that was really cool:P and he had done the excact thing they told him not to:p |
