Bottom line I dont think Ive heard a better version of the Zeigeunerweisen than this one, not by Pearlman, not by Chang, and certainly not by Chung but again just my unprofessional opinion.

Vengerov uses misplaced rubato to slow down the sections where he can't play fast enough.

yup
slickric25 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
perhaps a bad analogy but certainly not as ridiculous as calling Heifetz boring and just alright in my humble opinion. In any event both Chung and Heifetz are great in their own ways
jin12345678 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
well i think comparing chung to a toyota and heifetz to a rolls royce is equally ridiculouspersonally I like chung kyung wha very much. and it is true that chung is one of the greatest violinists.
slickric25 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
alright?? roughly?? boring???...I know we are all entilted to our own opinions but come on. You just compared Chung to Heifetz. Thats like comparing a Toyota to a Rolls Royce.

This guy's alright. He plays too roughly, his notes in this song are too staccato, he goes really slow, and on top of that he bores me. I like Kyung Wha Chung's playing of this piece better. |
