From Cleveland! I don't think so. Gerry Rafferty is from my home town, PAISLEY, SCOTLAND.

In my humble opinion, this song and the Long Run by the Eagles have the best sax licks ever! Love how easy this song is, just effortless, class song, class act!

this song was a hit when I first started listening to the radio. Rafferty was from Cleveland, my home town. I loved the sax solo. those were the days.

I'm old enough to remember this playing on the radio. I had always assumed it was about a woman in love with a hopeless alcoholic who was never going to stop being a womanizer to boot. But now, I'm wondering is this about a son who understands he has to give up on his alcoholic father and move on with life. Any input would be welcomed.
