Everyone has the right to choose the way that they communicate - As long as the child (if old enough) is fully aware and not given a bias view or is able to choose when they are older whether they still want to use the implant i don't have a problem with CIs. as long as they (and their parents) accept that they are Deaf and not treat it as an illness or something is wrong with them. everyone is special in their own unique way, why try and make them normal?Thats my 10 cents anyway :D NZSL

excuse me? my 9 year old sister was born almost completely deaf and when she was younger she got a cochlear implant. ci's are not about refusing to accept that your child is deaf, helping your child hear all the beautiful sounds of the world. How dare you say that if a child is born death they should just resort to asl, you have absolutely no right to impose judgement.

. Just because someone gets a cochlear implant does not mean they are ashamed of being deaf. my sister has incredible language skills, can communicate perfectly with her classmates and is improving so much. i understand that some of you are deaf or have deaf children and whatnot, but dont you dare judge other people for their descision and dont you dare cry for them and take pity on them because to me; that just says how completely clueless and naive you are.

I am completly deaf in my left ear. (With a cochlear implant) and hearing aid in my right. My hearing in my right ear is slowing deacreasing. The CI has worked great!

I am deaf from megingitus also but I refuse to have implant and I am happy to be deaf and proud of it. With a CI is like half machine and half human. It is inappropriately to me. There is no right or wrong. People have their own free will and decision to make. For me, I prefer to be fully human than half machine and half human. I am very happy to be deaf and I concern my whole human than half machine and half half, period. Fully human is God's gift rather than mankind of creation.

omg this kid was hearing and had speech already when he went deaf and then got cochlear implant. This understand as a good case for the surgery. If the child had been born deaf I would say hell no! ASL ASL ASL AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE!

Wow, I didn't realize that a cochlear implant would sound like a computer.

This is great, I am the mother of a deaf child, I accept that she is deaf I just choose to do something about it, bilateral Ci's she has the same language skills of her peer group. CI's do not delay the deaf childs language. Just as we would have to accept that any other condition we would also accept treatment for it. How many deaf people do you know that wear glasses for instance?

As the hearing parent of a Deaf child this makes me sad. This child has extremely limit language skills and is just parroting what her mother says. CI's prevent parents from accepting that their child is Deaf and slows the development of the Deaf child's true language ASL. Every time I see a implant I weep for that child's future. |
