I was born and raised in Fort McMurray, and have seen it change as the oil sands have boomed. Many of the points raised in this video are valid, however considering it is from a news site targeted towards people from the Middle East, a major competitor of Alberta, some of what is said is a little far fetched. One example springs readily to mind; the shot of the large houses. Those were some of the largest in Fort McMurray, and they ignored the ones nearly 1/3 the size just across the street.

Uncle Sam will never beet Mother nature. .. brother Bill will see to that.... isnt Canada 'Foreign' soil also? ... Canada is not merged with the USA.Fortunately mother nature has the final say, whatever the result.Fortunately more people know about it now... the next president will have the power of the pen to literally change the world. (in my opinion)

"Big Oil" is cleaning up it's act...what are you doing?

Okay girzwald so Al Gore is making money from his environmentalist publications? And... what's your point? What's he supposed to do? Make no money and go live in a tent? So environmentalism is keeping Al Gore in business... just like crime is keeping the police in business. This complaint that environmentalists make a living and use resources is vacuous. Without making money and using resources, they could never get their message out there! Of course, that is precisely what you want, girzwald.

When you say "yelling 'kyoto'" you only make a caricature. Okay so big oil and Canada only make up a part of the problem. So what? If the planet is dying from a death of a thousand little cuts, you don't say "okay I'll get my 10 cuts in just to make a few bucks..." In your logic, the 990 other cuts justifies your 10? Makes no sense! The whole point of the environmentalist ethos is to get people to realise that we need to get as many people as possible to stop polluting. That includes "big oil".
alienincognito (July 19, 2008 at 3:39 pm)
you ever hear of supply and demand? we are destroying this planet not "Big Oil". and when you look at the big picture, canada isn't a big polluter...so jumping on the "dirty oil" bandwagon and yelling "kyoto" isn't going to change things. |
