Since when is fighting smart a bad thing. That Marine didn't like the tactical situation he was presented so he pulled back. Instead he opted for a missile strike to take out the position. I'd say that's plenty smart. Just because the US won't fight on your terms doesn't make em chicken, it makes them effective, which is something the insurgency isn't.
