My father introduced this song to me today. I find it a very warm and beautiful piece that I set within my heart forever. A personalized lyric, by Don, for a person that he never knew. If we would all do this action, or something like it, what a wonderful warless world we would live in. Chet plays beautifully as always. Thanks so much Chuckakins for the sharing of this pristine and touching song/performance.

My gosh, how beautiful! I have to disagree heartily with tazzarman. Chet Atkins (who has indeed passed away, oaky132x) lifts this song to another level.

I Forgot how great Chet Atkins is (was?), He's got that echoplex going, and it sounds like Don's voice is going though another echoplex (Copycat). This is the best duo ever, Thanks Poster

wow.. took me a while to figure out he de-tuned both his 6th and 5th strings by 2 semitones... making the 6th string D and 5th string G... lolno wonder i found it strange tt he could play it so fluently...

..."Another hit song associated with Don McLean (though never recorded by him) is "Killing Me Softly with His Song" which was written about McLean after Lori Lieberman, also a singer/songwriter, saw him singing his composition "Empty Chairs" in concert. Afterwards, Lieberman wrote a poem titled "Killing me softly with his blues" which became the basis for the song written by Norman Gimbel and Charles Fox and recorded by Roberta Flack (and later covered by The Fugees)."

I miss Chet. His visits to "A Prairie Home Companion were always memorable, fun and touching.Don McLean is so gifted as a song writer & singer...Here was a new one on me - the song "Killing Me Softly With His Song" was not written about Stevie Wonder, as I had always thought - but instead, it was written about Don McLean....And there is a biography out called "The Don McLean Story: Killing Us Softly With His Songs"Lots of good stuff about Don on the Wikipedia Don McLean page... |
