Exactly. VW/Cabrio/the car is incidental. It just happens to be the vehicle (hah, no pun intended) for pairing the images with the music that together convey that lovely summery feeling.

Ahhh, I love this commercial. Reminds me of beautiful, warm, summer nights of doing nothing but sitting outside, listening to crickets and sipping a Corona.Funny thing about this commercial is that it doesn't make me think of Volkswagens in the least. I just think it's a nice commercial :)

In college I had a convertable Rabbit and a Cabriolet. This brings back some happy memories. :-)If the commercial was a little longer it would have included the car breaking down and the friends looking at the moon as they sat waiting for a tow-truck. I drive a Toyota now.

To all the nuffers out there: I think this is a great commercial. It manages to convey that feeling of cruising down an empty road on a summer night surrounded by a group of good friends--people you don't necessarily need to talk with, but can simply be with. That lovely feeling was wonderfully communicated with the help of this beautiful song. Just because you love Nick Drake (which I certainly do too) doesn't mean you have to howl "UNWORTHY!" at everything else.

I think some of you are missing the bigger picture here. Yes, this great song was set to a car commercial. But let's take a look at how many people went out and bought a Cabrio because of this commercial. Probably not that many. Now, let's look at how many people discovered Nick Drake after seeing this commercial and went out and bought "Way to Blue", or "Pink Moon". Nick Drake had a well deserved second revival of popularity recently, and like it or not this commercial had a lot to do with it.

The commercial still sucks. An amazin song as a shill for a crappy car is hardly validating to a good song. Sad to see people happy wth this song being used to shill a shitty gas guzzling car. You think Nick would have wanted this?
