actually raccoons are just like that. they dont need to be trained to steal anything. its in their nature to steal stuff, not just food.
Zombissux (October 12, 2008 at 7:27 pm)
That Racoon has gotta be trained to do that how else would you catch that?

Makes sense. I've seen possums around where I live, they come at night to scavange the backyard looking for dog/cat food (they usually hit the jackpot) but I've never seen raccoons. If there were they'd probably become regulars at my place because I'd be looking for them to feed them. LOL

They're hungry, unett. There are more racoons today, than there otherwise would be, if we humans weren't around.Racoons & opossums are scavengers, and have found food in people's garbage, so they come back.If they find a constant food source, it stimulates breeding...then there are more. They grab anything that they smell food on, and run with it, I guess so they can take it to a hiding place to further explore it.I think some of them equate the smell of humans, with food.

There is a patch of woods behind my house.Whenever I go down there in search of my birdfeeders, if I find them they are torn up, beaten up, and chewed on.Plates...if plastic, they're chewed up, so I have gone to using metal camping-gear plates, whenever I put out food. They're hungry. It's sad.I want to feed them every day, but I don't want to stimulate a population explosion, which is what happens when they get food on a regular basis.

That is just devious. Why do they steal things like doormats and plates? Do they pawn them? Trade them for food? Are these articles just discovered a couple yards away torn to shreds?
unett (October 11, 2008 at 7:55 pm)
Go figure! LOL they must put their loot somewhere though. I wonder why they are like that.

Racoons are cute. But they are thieves! They steal my birdfeeders on a regular basis.Whenever I put food out for them, they steal the plate.
