That was what the British told the US and they swallowed it, telling them "Mossadeq is a communist" which of course was complete BS. Eisenhower approved the CIA plan. He did not want Iran to come under Soviet influence. At that time '53 was the height of the "cold war". Listen to all of this 1960 speech.
