Normally, the nominal torque is defined for the motor shaft. But in the first gear, you can get a much higher torque (here 3000 Nm) on the wheel.

Im having a hard time believing that it makes 3000 NM, 1000-1500 maybe but no more.In comparison the Volvo FH16 660 makes 3100 NM and 660 hp with a turbocharged 16 liter straight six diesel.The BMW got a 3,6 liter straight six runing on gas (i presume) That is less than 1/4 engine volume.
