Thats right. GIMP is a lot stripped down. But to me, that doesnt matter, I too am a Linux user (SliTaz, Puppy 4 Dingo, Velo ALPHA 1, and Ubuntu Hardy Heron) a Windows user (Vista SP1, XP SP3) and ofcource a Mac user (Tiger) all booting on same system. So far, only bragging. However, GIMP is really good, but it CANT be compared to Photoshop. I find latest Photoshop a MESS...Although I like both GIMP and Photoshop.

That's why we have external CD drives, but remember the Asus company said that this device has no moving hardware inside it, so installing a CD/DVD ect... would be calling them liar. However a CD/ DVD drive would be a nice touch though.^_^

I know there is an XP version now. It costs the same as the linux version, but it has a smaller hard drive. If you really want xp you can get the linux version and install xp on it. That way you get a bigger hard drive. I have been using linux for a couple of weeks now and really like it. So I would just use linux.

How is Ubuntu? I am currently running OpenSUSE 11. But at some point I would like to try out some other distros.

I have been a long time photoshop user. Most recently I was using photoshop CS2. I find that gimp does do most of what photoshop does. Any features that photoshop has that gimp doesn't are things I probably wouldn't have a need for. I know that gimp doesn't do pantone colors or CMYK. I don't need to do those. My point is that MOST people will be able to do what they need with gimp. So it's silly for most people to shell out $600 for a copy of photoshop when they can get gimp for free. |
