The SAS were there and did a real bang up job going after the SCUDs. However they werent alone--American Army Special Forces (the Green Berets) were also there doing the same thing. Actually the way we kept Israel out of the war was by giving them Patriot missile systems to shoot the SCUD's out of the sky. Despite a great effort, both the American and British special forces teams were largely ineffective at stopping the mobile SCUD launchers due to the fact that they moved around so much.

the first and the last people to go in to the gulf war were the British SAS. They were there to destroy Iraqi SCUD missile launchers that were attacking Israel. When General Schwarzkopf was tying to stop the Israelis joining in the gulf war he told them it was a special forces group, when the israelis asked who it was general Schwarzkopf replied with the SAS. After that the israelis stopped there plans to invade Iraq thus stopping half of the middle east going to war
