He suffered from stage fright throughout his entire comedic career, hence the sunglasses and hair in the eyes (to help minimize his nerviousness).Didn't stop him though!

well the nervousness thing was kinda the way he was, and its a nice change from comedians that need to tell whole stories to get people to laugh. he had endless one-liners and that is not easy to do
