I like Leavitt publicizing certain interesting ideas, but he sometimes simply borrows others' observations and implies they're his.

OMG! I SAW A GIANT 6 FOOT BUNNY ON EASTER WHEN I WAS A YOUNG BOY.My mom thinks I'm nuts, and my grand father WAS putting cotton balls around the house to get us riled up, but...I saw it going out the door of our sun porch.I ran after it, not even scared, which is surprising, looking back. I ran outside right behind it and it was gone, and I was running around everywhere looking for it.I swear that it was real to this day, and tell the story with NO shame at all.
MrDuffy81 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)

I'm well aware that Levitt's associates at the University of Chicago have tried to rationalize racism as a "market choice." This would include Levitt's hero Gary Becker, who claimed that slaves in the old South were happy and Richard Posner, who advocated a market where black babies would allowed to be traded at a discount to black babies. I really don't need any lectures on racism from a Pat Contard fan.

A large part of freakonomics is based around showing how reason and knowledge is the best weapon against racism specifically using the decline and fall of the Ku Klux klan as an example. In the same chapter he statistically exposes hidden racism endemic in society. You wouldnt know this. You have not read the book. Yet here you are parading irreason and ignorance all over the comments section. Quite frankly I find your behavior appalling. You are no better than those you claim to oppose. |
