The Franks were in Northern France earlier than you think, even before the fall of the Roman empire. 300 BC, up to 30% of cemetaries in some Northern French settlements were Frankish. Northern French agricultural tool in medieval were also derived from Frankish names. Many Frankish migrated settled in France, not jsut warriors.

they brush over the the king of Norways invasion, that particular King was a highly respected and experienced Leader of men, and he landed with a huge Viking Army, Harold Godwinson of England defeated him then had to fight the normans a few days later, on the other side of the country, the English must have been exhausted, and it wasn't a fair fight.

jadawin10... ...is correct... More importantly they weren't"vikings" to begin with... Rolo was a Dacian who fled eastern Europe... The only Viking in the "Gesta Normannorum" is Anstign who is a Dane and more or less an enemy of Rolo...

"the Normans are NOT descendants of vickings"This is correct... The Normands are the descendants of Dacians... ...read the chronicle of the Normands... The "Gesta Normannorum"... It is pretty clear on their origin... For some reason some historians decided that "Dacians" really means "Vikings" this is false...

Wrong assertion from this video: the Normans are NOT descendants of vickings. The very small number of vikings who violently tried to colonize normandy, ended up being assimilated or else they'd perish...

stop to make fantasy History...DNA study about the population of Normandy shows they are almost no nordic trace in their blood...In 1066, the Vikings warriors of Rollo, ancestors of William II of Normandy (Guillaume le Conquérant, its real name) were assimilated for a century and half and they spoke French.During this battle, the main part of the Norman troops was mercenaries from nearby towns, like Tour, Le Mans and Angers...

The Normans that invaded England in 1066 came from Normandy in Northern France. However, they were originally Vikings from Scandinavia.Every Norman BY BLOOD not marriage carries the blood of Vikings (Scandanvians.) A typical ancient Norman was tall and heavily built with pale eyes and and fair hair. Some today carry these characteristics. |
