Why do countertenors insist in singing this aria? It was composed for a female character!

Thanks.:)I wonder if there's video footage of exactly how the process was carried out.If there is, I'd love to see it.Things like that fascinate me, especially when it came to choose which voice to use for which part.

in the film "farinelli" the voice is computer-generated to replicate the voice of a castrate in the early 18th century. a hybrid-voice of a man and a women creates farinelli's voice, as powerful as a man's voice and as high and light as a woman's voice. no singer today is able to sing that way the castrates, like farinelli, did.

Quand la voix de l'homme approche avec perfection celle des anges...

No, actually, Philippe Jaroussky was not singing by the time Farinelli went on the big screen. He did not even know the movie when he started singing! Anyway, I agree with the fact that Farinelli is a great movie.

Vous avez bien raison. Je fremis d'entendre un tel voix emouvant.

I'm going to ask a VERY stupid question. I remember this piece from "Farinelli", one of my favourite films, btw, &, I wonder, is Philippe the gentleman who recorded that song for the film?
