the DC5 has always been one of my favorite bands. these cuts here are obviously studio tracks set to live footage and added crowd screams but there are several scenes of them performing live...though, i have yet to see one. its been said that dave clark himself owns all the music and videos of the group. not sure if he isnt happy with the live cuts therefore doesnt allow them out. i wish i could see the raw footage but really, there is none.

My Mum and Dad went to see them at The Basildon Locarno when I was a kid. I loved their stuff and was quite jealous. my dad hated them then, and my Mum made him take her to see them. I think you're right about Dave Clarks drumming, but sometimes a thumping sound is all you need for a good sound. We can't all be Carl Palmer.

dmartens101. They sang Glad All Over live on their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Look for it.

Many of the comments below are ill-informed. I saw the Dave Clark 5 live dozens of times in the sixties when they were a dance hall band at both the Tottenham Royal and The Basildon Locarno. Dave Clark was certainly no great shakes as drummer but if he had been they probably wouldn't have developed that simple thumping style that made them so popular.

For a while back in early 1964, the DC5 did challenge the Beatles for musical kingship.Unfortunately they spent too much time away from mother England, to tour the U.S.The pommie audiences didn't like that one little bit, and that was reflected in lower record sales.

Don't think they are lip-synching in this clip. The original recordings have been overdubbed over a live performance, unfortunately.

I think Mike Smith's voice is second to none in the history of rock n' roll, but why is there virtually no film of them performing live? Every performance I see is lip-synched. It gives the impression, false I hope, that they were simply a creation of the recording studio and couldn't deliver the goods live.

I was there too...and, I hate to admit it, but the DC5 did oust the Beatles from number 1 at least once.

No way. I was around then and the Beatles were first. DC5 second, Stones third. |
