It's my favorite piece of Strivinsky, even above Rite of Spring. It shows his complete mastery of counterpoint. I love how each woodwind plays it's own little "Strivinsky" like motive. It's wonderful!

Ah, I didn't mean Stravinsky's piece, i meant the music playing at the very start of the video (and continues for a while). Symphony of Psalms is indeed a masterpiece, sorry for the misunderstanding.

The music playing in the background towards the end of the clip is the 2nd movement from Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms, one of the greatest works of the first half of the 20th century. It's a fugue (a double fugue after the choir enters) and it's a masterpiece of counterpoint and a seminal milestone of the tonal/polytonal harmony that Stravinsky would employ in his "neo-classical" middle period of creative output. It's also one of the greatest homages to Bach: get to know it, you'll love it.

The music playing in the backround really irritates me! But wow, this was so great to see. Thanks for sharing this.

Stravinsky mentions the Spiritual Hierarchy. Try the Share International web site for more information.

Go Ives!!

That is Robert Craft. A very important conductor and advocate for modern music. I think that quote was taken out of context so it sounded "idiotic". Plus I am pretty sure he was drunk. Any way you should read the book "Conversations with Stravinsky" by Robert Craft. It is short and informative.

I like Ennio Morricone (oboe music is abosultely beautiful), Korngold (Violin concerto), John Willians and Vaughn Williams. Not all are American but they're all modern and their music is superb.
