friends you get along with or friends you actually like? Anyways thanks for that info. I love Kevin. He's a genius.

They are actually old friends, man. Dvorak is actually among the old honorguard from the TechTV days. Just to let you know.

John Dvorak (the host) is doing his job as a journalist. I think it's VERY legitimate to ask about the seeming hypocrisy. I think Kevin and Alex are great innovators, idea guys, too. What's the difference between them complaining about lost revenue and Bill Gates back in the 70s when people were making copies of the paper-tape that his Altair Basic was on? And we know where Gates ended up. Dvorak can be an asshole, but not this time.

The host is just an asshole. Their explanation is clear and frankly fair. They could be assholes about the revenue loss and sue the shit outta that guy pirating but they just want him to stop unless he could provide the stats that sponsors pay big bucks for. Fuck that old host. Hes not half as incoherant as he acts.

Thing is, I don't think DiggDown was making money off it, were they? They didn't have contracts with Digg's advertisers, right? The big hoopla was because DiggDown was getting video content and not reporting numbers, thereby keeping Rev3 from making money for those content downloads. The Creative Commons license is exactly the reason why we can get clips of Digg on YouTube with no problem, so I think Dvorac kinda missed the point, as usual.

Dvorak FTW.

Well the show is now free like Kevin said.
CanuckProductions (January 26, 2008 at 4:36 am)
The reason they got pissed at Diggdown was that Diggdown didn't share the viewer information (how many DLs), so they couldn't show those viewer numbers to sponsors. Mirrornation does the same thing, except they send the download information to Rev3, so it's all cool.

Well, now it's free all the time. You don't have to be a subscriber to get Diggnation as soon as it comes out. As far as I can tell from what they're saying though, they had no problem with other people hosting the video, just don't make money off of it.

Seems a bit hypocritical of them to say "They support pirating, just not our stuff." Seems like when it's their money, it's totally different.
